Foreign Minister attends Human Rights 75 high-level event

Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashed Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, partook in the Human Rights 75 high-level event, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), held at the Human Rights Council headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland on December 11-12.

In his speech at the meeting, the minister congratulated the council on the occasion, commending its efforts in protecting human dignity.

The minister spoke on the horrific humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza, where the rights of the Palestinians are violated before the eyes of the world. He urged the council to take a firm stance on these violations and to uphold the principles and of human rights and humanitarian law that are applicable to all.

The minister said the Kingdom of Bahrain pledged to develop a comprehensive national human rights framework with a well defined road map and timeframe to implement its human rights commitments and initiatives.

Bahrain also pledges to continue working on consolidating the values of peace and tolerance in cooperation with the legislative authority, he said.

Within this context, he announced the launch of a diploma programme on coexistence diplomacy, aimed at promoting the culture of peace, human fraternity and solidarity.

The minister affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain urges all parties to adhere to the principles of the UDHR.
