Issuance of A Travel Permit

A travel permit is issued to Bahraini citizens abroad in the event of loss/theft of their passports or to children born to Bahraini parents abroad, and it allows the holder to return to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The travel permit is issued in coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (the missions and consulates of the Kingdom of Bahrain abroad) and the Ministry of Interior )The General Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Residence).

Terms of Service

  • Travel permit for newborns:
    • The personal presence of the father or the legal representative of the child to submit the application.
    • The applicant (the father/legal representative) must be outside the Kingdom of Bahrain during the application process.
  • Travel permit in case of loss or theft:
    • Verification or proof of loss of the passport before applying for a travel permit.

Required Documents

  • For newborns:
    • A letter from the father or legal representative requesting a travel permit (letter form).
    • A copy of both the mother and the father’s passports.
    • A copy of the certified marriage contract with the official translation.
    • A certified copy of the child's birth certificate with the official translation.
    • A recent, clear front-facing colored personal photo, measuring 4×6, with a white background.
  • In the case of loss or theft:
    • A letter from the person concerned requesting a travel permit (letter form).
    • A recent, clear front-facing colored personal photo, measuring 4×6, with a white background.
    • A copy of the report issued (of theft or loss) from the nearest police station in the city where the applicant resides.
    • A copy of the lost passport.

Fees

There are no fees associated with this service.

Request submission channels/steps

Through the e-Government Portal:

  • issuance of laissez-passer for children of Bahraini citizens born outside the Kingdom, lost or damaged passports abroad through the website Bahrain.bh

Documents are to be submitted to the Kingdom of Bahrain’s missions abroad:

  • Go to the nearest embassy or consulate general to submit a request to issue a travel permit, taking care to provide the required documents, and follow the regulatory procedures for submission.
  • The application and all attached documents are sent to the Ministry of Interior (the General Directorate for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs) through the electronic travel permits program.

The time taken to complete the service

  • (7) working days.
