Sustainable Development

The Kingdom of Bahrain believes in the importance of achieving sustainable and comprehensive development for all vital sectors of society.

This is reflected in its keenness to align successive government action programs and strategies of various government agencies with sustainable development goals.

As reflected in the National Action Charter and the Kingdom’s Constitution, which emphasized the principles of sustainable development, where it was stated that the national economy is based on social justice, and its foundation is fair cooperation between public and private activities, and its goal is economic development according to a plan and to achieve prosperity for citizens. It also focused on protecting the environment and the need to achieve a balance between it and the requirements of development, and to consolidate this through laws, legislation, and the work of institutions.

National Economic Vision 2030

National Economic Vision 2030

The National Economic Vision 2030, which was launched in 2008, also included 3 main principles: sustainability, justice, and competitiveness.

The vision was in line with the sustainable development goals, as these goals represent the government's basic priorities and are linked to the implementation of its action programs.

As part of the Kingdom’s keenness to strengthen national efforts in supporting the goals of sustainable development, it established a specialized ministry for sustainable development in the new ministerial formation, which came based on Royal Decree No. (68) of 2022 forming the ministry issued on November 21, 2022, whereas HE Noor bint Ali Al Khulaif assumed the role of the Minister of Sustainable Development.

Since the Kingdom of Bahrain's adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals, its work program (2015-2018) has been linked to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The Government's Action Plan (2019-2022) and its current Action Plan (2023-2026) have also been linked to the sustainable development goals. The National Committee for Information and Population, headed by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and with the membership of representatives of the various ministries of the Kingdom, works to monitor and follow up on the progress achieved by the Kingdom of Bahrain to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
