In this regard, he stressed Bahrain’s support for the activities of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Inter-Regional Representative Office for the Arab Region (IOAR), in a way that serves the joint developmental and environmental goals, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, and the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed was speaking while receiving Filipe Lucio, the Director of Member Services and Development Department at the WMO, with whom he reviewed areas of the Bahrain-WMO cooperation and partnership in the fields of education, training, technology and knowledge transfer, as well as capacity building, developing early warning systems, confronting climate change and managing natural disasters, in a way that contributes to maintaining public safety and environmental security, in addition to supporting sustainable development goals.
Filipe Lucio expressed thanks and appreciation to the kingdom for its constructive cooperation with the WMO, as it hosts its Office for the Arab Region. He also praised Bahrain’s recent hosting of the 50th Session of WMO/ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones (PTC-50), and the WMO Course on Implementation of Competencies in Climate Services, among other international and regional events.
