The Undersecretary for Political Affairs was speaking during the consultative workshop devoted to discussing and determining cooperation priorities between the Government of Bahrain and the United Nations, held at the Conventions Hall at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manama.
Khaled El Mekwad, Resident Coordinator of the UN Activities in Bahrain, attended the meeting, in which representatives of various ministries, government agencies, national institutions, and several UN agencies participated.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa affirmed that Bahrain is looking forward to continuing and strengthening effective cooperation and partnership with the UN within the framework of strategic cooperation and sustainable development for the coming period (2025-2029).
The aim is to build on the joint achievements in implementing development and human rights programmes, projects and initiatives within the framework of the current strategic cooperation for the years (2021-2024), signed with 21 UN specialised agencies, in a way that contributes to supporting the SDGs in their economic, social and environmental dimensions, in accordance with the Government Programme, and the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, the Political Affairs Undersecretary said.
Khaled El Mekwad stressed the keenness of the UN development system to enhance constructive and fruitful strategic cooperation with the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain in achieving sustainable development goals, as well as in consolidating partnership in the fields of economic and social development, security, peace, human rights, climate change and environmental protection, wishing the Kingdom and its people further prosperity and progress, in addition to continued success in achieving its national development goals.
The representatives of the Government of Bahrain and their UN agencies’ counterparts discussed areas of joint cooperation and coordination in implementing the current initiatives, in addition to determining priorities of cooperation, in light of the programmes and projects to be approved and implemented within the strategic cooperation and sustainable development for the 2025-2029 period.
